A very helpful evening with John Edwards

On Tuesday 27th February John Edwards visited the group to review and critique members’ paintings.   John was really impressed with the standard of work brought along by members.   He commented on the mounting and framing, occasionally noting that the framing did not do justice to the painting.   It is always worth thinking about what colour of frame to use and not just to use ‘any old frame’ one has at home!   During the evening John talked about composition, light against dark, tonal values and direction of brush strokes within paintings.

Here is one painting he reviewed commenting on its imaginative approach and originality.  The left hand side being lighter stops the eye falling out of the picture.  The torn edge adds to the originality.  He encouraged members to look at the work of famous artists and the techniques they used.  There was so much to learn during the evening and then to try and remember all the useful tips.  Since the  quality of work brought along for John to review was so good we look forward to a wonderful summer exhibition this year.   Thank you very much John for your guidance.
