Welcome to the WAG Newsletter

Waterside Art Group June 2018 Newsletter

Dear Members and Friends

Greetings to you all.  I hope you are achieving all that you want to at this time of year, maybe including a little plein air painting!  Lovely as the sun is, watering seems to be at the top of the agenda for those with gardens.

The committee is really pleased that we are getting a very good attendance of 20 to 25 members on Tuesday evenings who seem to create a really happy, supportive atmosphere.  Well done to you all.

This Newsletter is designed to keep you up-to-date on various art group activities and to remind you of forthcoming events.

2019 calendar

Thank you again to all those members who submitted paintings for the calendar and to all of you who came in to vote for your favourites.  We have cropped and adjusted each image to show it to best advantage.  The committee has met and used their judgement to allocate the paintings to the cover and to each month.  We have now scanned or photographed the paintings as appropriate and have sent the images to the graphic designer/printer.  When he is happy with everything we will then let you know the allocation of the paintings per month (all fourteen paintings that I mentioned on the voting night will be included)

We plan to print 300 calendars (50 more than last year) so we will all have to do our best at marketing them!  As our exhibition is not until later in August, we will probably start promoting the calendar at the end of July/beginning of August.  We have already obtained the permission of the Parish Council to have a sales table on the Tuesday Market at about this time.

Our Exhibition at The Community Centre

20th August to 25th August

As you know, our exhibition - timed to correspond with Hampshire Open Studios - will be from Monday 20th August until Saturday 25th August.  Entry forms with all the essential information are now available and can be collected on Tuesday evenings or printed from our website (go to “Members” and then click on “Exhibition forms and news”) or you can click [here]  The deadline for submission of entries is Tuesday 17th July.  Late entries will not be accepted.

As usual, we will need volunteers for setting up the exhibition and for stewarding.  This will be sorted over the coming weeks.  We also need all of you to be pro-active with publicity.  If you see an ideal shop or place for a poster, put one up rather than tell us after the exhibition that one could have gone up!

For those members who need their paintings to be framed, please note that our framer “Charlie” will be coming to the group on Tuesday 3rd July.  He will return framed paintings on Tuesday 17th July.

Watercolour workshop with Barry Miles

Saturday 27th October

This workshop will take place in The Community Centre between 10am and 4pm.  Barry will take us through the process of completing a harbour scene in watercolour.  He will provide the paper in order to maintain consistency but we will need to provide paints, brushes etc.  Barry is an excellent artist and demonstrator.  Some of Barry's work is on display in the new Art Gallery in Hythe, Hythe Arcade.   Do pop in and take a look.

Although this is a little way into the future, we have the summer break coming up soon so please let secretary Chris Jones know as soon a possible if you wish to attend this workshop.

Hythe Library exhibition

Just an advance reminder that we will be having an exhibition of smaller (less than 25cm x 25cm) paintings from 26th November until 8th December, so do bear this in mind in your painting schedule - ideal projects for a Tuesday evening?

Keep informed!

Don’t forget that the best way of keeping up-to-date with what’s happening at Waterside Art Group and learning more about the above events is by visiting our website watersideartgroup.co.uk.  Posts under the tab [News] will let you know if anything different is happening on a Tuesday evening.  Also this Newsletter and previous ones can be read at any time by going to the Members tab on the website and clicking on [Newsletter] in the drop down menu.
